Let’s jump into it, shall we?
Jumpsuits = the easiest and ultimate outfit.
Recently, I was interviewed by Molly Marie Flaherty, the owner of Get Dressed LA, for an Instagram Live, and one of the style topics we covered was the perfect vacation pack. Over the years, I have come up with a formula for this (if it was on the SAT’s think how well I would have done!) One of the essentials for my pack is a simple jumpsuit. In general, I think a jumpsuit makes life much easier. No decisions on color, tucking, proportion, belt, etc. I also use the technique of rolling when I pack, so this is an easy packable item with minimal wrinkling. Depending on the weather or if you are going from day to night, you can layer almost anything over a jumpsuit - try adding a long cardigan, denim jacket, or big chunky sweater to change the look. I personally like jumpsuits for most occasions and even prefer them when I need to dress up. Often, ninety five percent of the women at an event are in dresses and with my jumpsuit (or an off-white tuxedo) at a cocktail event or black tie occasion, it makes me feel more confident to go against the crowd. This is a quick and easy tip on how to be more unique with your style. In cooler climates, there is also the practical advantage of being warmer when others are freezing in their short cocktail dresses. When choosing a jumpsuit, always check to see how it looks and fits from behind. Many jumpsuits are less structured than pants, which is why a check from behind is so crucial to ensuring a flattering fit. The only other potential problem is going to the bathroom when at a party or restaurant (when we return to social beings). This can be challenging and might require some assistance from a fellow bathroom-goer. Depending on the occasion or type of jumpsuit, heel height is up in the air. I would say with anything cropped and wide on the bottom, I prefer pairing with sneakers, sandals, mules (possibly with a kitten heel) or flatforms. I think many people travel with wedges, which could work (though I will say I haven’t really been wearing my wedges lately). For a jumpsuit with a jogger bottom, I think you could go with a high-heel and dress it up - especially with high, sexy, and strappy sandals or dress down with sneakers. Talk about a day to night option - just change your shoes and jewelry and you could stay in your jumpsuit for a fun daytime adventure and then head to an event or dinner. For a long or dressy jumpsuit, I say go for a killer shoe/heel. I like to wear long jumpsuits on the long side…. but don’t trip! For accessorizing, I tend to wear a really statement earring or bracelet (s) rather then necklaces although with a v-neck or low cut jumpsuit, a long fun necklace or layers of necklaces would look nice. I found quite a variety in my closet - some I have had for over 10 years. They tend to be less trendy and more of a staple so I say if you find a great jumpsuit - and it looks good from both the front and the back - grab it and go.
